Newsletter - Autumn and Winter 2026
Wainfleet St Mary Parish Autumn and Winter 2026 Newsletter
As we move into Autumn and the crisp cold of Winter, it feels like the right moment to pause and look back on the year so far. Spring may have arrived with more drizzle than daffodils, but Summer certainly made up for it — bringing long, bright days, busy village life, and plenty of opportunities for fun and socialising. As the evenings draw in and the first hints of frost begin to appear, thoughts turn towards the festive season. Christmas preparations are already beginning to take shape, and before long it will be a brand‑new year filled with fresh plans, community projects, and the shared spirit that makes Wainfleet St Mary such a special place to call home. We hope you enjoy this edition of the newsletter, packed with updates, reflections, and a look ahead at what’s to come.
Two great get-togethers this year – the first one was Picnic in the Park in conjunction with our neighbours across the water in All Saints – and we had Maypole dancing, Morris Men, Mini Olympics, picnics, music - tea and cake of course – and a great raffle - and just a general good time. It had to be postponed because of the rain – but nothing daunted it was even better at the end of May when the sun shone, and everyone turned out to party – dance and generally have a fun time.
The second one was the now annual Village Show on August Bank Holiday Sunday – the bank holiday weather demon left us alone ... we had sun – not too hot – just glorious sun and fun. More produce entries than last year and some crackers as well despite the long hot dry spell – our growers have the measure of the weather – lots of practice....Our new gazebos and fabulously decorated tea tent did the job of hosting all our crafters and cakes, (so many lovely and different ones this year...) the Dog Show, (Thank you Andrew from Wainfleet Pets for the winners bags) RBL and the Notts Air Ambulance, the raffle and the tombola, (well done ladies – you raised funds brilliantly for our Community) the absolutely fabulous Rhythm and Steel and the Creaking Bones all magnificently MC’d by Gavin..plus some amazing vintage vehicles.....
Congratulations to all our Winners... the steel band music was just so captivating – no-one could resist a bit of toe tapping and swaying...a really feel good afternoon.
And of course, all fed by Bobby with bangers and burgers and a cool pint to wash it all down – so many lovely comments have come in afterwards about how it was a perfect traditional old style Village Show – and we are doing it all again next year. Thanks to all who helped and came and joined in. It’s what makes it work.
The following weekend it was the Wainfleet Bike Night – it’s taken us all a few weeks to recover....a cracking Saturday as it always is and really puts Wainfleet on the Biker Map.
The Fabulous Young Farmers will be meeting in the Hall on Tuesdays at 7.30pm through the winter...they are a brilliant organisation for young people with a wide variety of activities on offer and a chance to make new friends all over the country. Come and get involved.
Wainfleet YFC is open to anyone aged 10 - 28 years old and you don’t need to have any farming knowledge or own a pair of wellies. Visit the clubs Facebook page: Wainfleet Young Farmers Club or email wainfleetyfc1@gmail.com to get more information.
The Friendship Club celebrated their first full year with crafts, chat, Prosecco and cake...already looking forward to the next one.....they meet every second and fourth Wednesday in the Community Hall from 10.00 till 12.00– get in touch with Beth or Ann – or message us here and we’ll put you n touch.
The Play Area has been refurbished – sadly the 2 new picnic tables with games have had to have the games removed owing to vandalism – the tables will remain, but the games will no longer be there to play with. It is a great shame when a few spoil it for the many. It is doubtful we will try anything a bit different again. On the order book is new Play Park sign with the same design and colours as the Jubilee Orchard and the new sign in the Community Hall field.
Remembrance Sunday Saturday 7th November at St Mary’s parish Church - 10.45 for 11.00 service of remembrance to honour those from our village who made the ultimate sacrifice in two world wars. The Royal British Legion will be attending. and an organist has been booked . Tea and coffee will be served after the service. Everyone welcome - let us not forget
And that brings us to Christmas....date is Sunday December 6th at 10.00am. Santa is coming for Breakfast this year to give him time to get round everyone before the big day. This is supported by Platform Housing and the WSM Hall Committee and as in previous years this is a free event - bookings and menu choices will be required and the booking form is attached with this newsletter.
The Lunch Club who have provided the best lunches again this year has grown in diners and volunteers- which is a great match – this year again all Lunch Club members will have a Christmas Lunch at Woodthorpe Garden Centre funded by the Hall Committee - Wednesday 9th December followed by a Carol Service in the Hall with mulled wine and mince pies at 6pm – and the Christmas tree and hall light switch on.
We have carried out the drainage works on our farming allotments which has given our tenants the confidence to continue farming along with a new and updated Farm Business tenancy to ensure we work together for everyone’s’ mutual benefit.
Our focus at the moment is on putting together a bid for some funding to purchase a new steel container to safely store our new gazebos, our new tea tent which gives a clue what is inside... and marquees....if successful it will go behind the hall making storage safe and accessible- keep your fingers crossed it is successful....
And lastly but by no means leastly, we are still pushing to get the works along The Pinfold and the Steeping started never mind completed as well as the re-surfacing along the A52 .
We could really do with your support in sending your concerns to LCC and our local MP Richard Tice to try and get something happening. If you need their contact details, we would be happy to pass them forward.
