Newsletter Spring and Summer 2026

Wainfleet St Mary Parish Spring and Summer 2026 Newsletter

Welcome to our Spring & Summer Newsletter – Is Spring springing....the snowdrops and daffs think so.

As we slowly lose winter’s wet and grey days, there’s a lovely sense of renewal in the air. The first signs of spring always seem to lift the spirit—lighter mornings, birdsong returning, and those small bursts of colour that remind us that warmer weather is on its way.

This edition looks ahead to the coming twelve months with optimism and gratitude. Our parish has a full and lively year planned: opportunities to gather, to celebrate, and to continue strengthening the sense of community that makes this place feel like home. From seasonal events and shared traditions to new projects taking shape, there’s much to look forward to as we see what this year will bring us....

The Friendship Club continues to meet in the Community Hall  and goes from strength to strength – it meets fortnightly every 2nd and 4th Wednesday and is a warm friendly social space with tea and biscuits, chat and things to do - pop along to the next one – it all starts at 10.30am till 12.30pm.....and is just £1.50....for more info ask our clerk...

The ever-popular Lunch Club continues to grow and is a great place to meet, chat – and of course lunch. To book give Jan a call on 07749 012250....or if you are new to St Mary’s and would like to know exactly what it is then send our clerk a message or follow the Hall Facebook page – all contact details at the end of the newsletter,

The Fabulous Young Farmers meet in the Hall on Tuesdays at 7.30pm they are a brilliant organisation for young people with a wide variety of activities on offer and a chance to make new friends all over the country.  Over the winter months all members have enjoyed activities ranging from Cheerleading, 10 Pin Bowling, Pumpkin Carving, Sausage Making, Craft nights, Wreath Making, First Aid, Jump Warriors, Golf Driving Range, Auctioneering training, Pancake Making, and Roller skating. Alongside this, members have taken part in competitions against other clubs within the county including 10 Pin Bowling, Rounders (in snow showers), Dodgeball, Quiz, Public Speaking & Mock Auction. They have entries through to the East Midlands area rounds being held in Skegness this month in Reading and Dodgeball competitions.

Wainfleet YFC is open to anyone aged 10 - 28 years old and you don’t need to have any farming knowledge or own a pair of wellies. Visit the clubs Facebook page: Wainfleet Young Farmers Club or email wainfleetyfc1@gmail.com to get more information.

The Play Area has gone from the “To do” list and is now scheduled for all repairs and painting and general tidying up ready for the summer...it will mean closing the area completely for a couple of days in the next month to allow everything to be completed safely and efficiently – the dates will be advised on the Council Notice Boards, Facebook pages and also on the entrance. Please bear with us and we will get it all done as quickly as possible – we hope to avoid weekends and holiday periods.

The ever active Community Hall Committee fund raisers have been hard at work again and been successful in obtaining funding for a new hot cupboard for the Lunch Club; new flooring for the hall to make keeping it clean simpler and easier; an additional marquee for the every growing Village Show how along with 12 gazebos and new tables to cater for all our participants.

Easter will soon be here. Lent started with Ash Wednesday on February 18th with a short noon service.

On Palm Sunday 29th March there will be a 10.00 choral Parish Mass with Frs. Paul and Huw with plenty of music. There will be no service on Easter Sunday, but we shall be joining our friends at All Saints at 11.00. Everyone always welcome.

Wainfleet Bike Night follows on Saturday 5th September.

Remembrance Sunday will be commemorated at St Marys and All Saints as in previous years – dates will be 7th and 8th November.

Christmas (although who wants to think about Christmas just yet....) Santa is coming for Breakfast this year (he’s very partial to a bacon bun) – date will be Sunday December 6th at 10.00am. As with Tea, bookings will be required for which the booking form can be downloaded will be included with the Autumn Newsletter.

These are all the fun things that are in the pipeline – the more serious aspect of being a Parish Council is looking after the area as a whole which includes grass cutting and tree management,  pushing to get the repairs effected along the Pinfold/Steeping – which we understand are finally going ahead this year with the budget having been approved by the LCC – and to manage the farming allotments. These 69 acres provide the bulk of the income to the Parish Council to allow us to meet our responsibilities. In 2025 we started a programme of land drain replacements to allow the land to be farmed effectively and to meet our responsibilities to our farming tenants. This has meant the Council have had to introduce a precept to ensure this is carried out professionally and effectively and will mean a contribution from each WSM property of approx £1.00 per week which we hope you will understand and support. This is a 5-year plan and will protect the parish assets and income for the future.

Our other responsibilities include working on the behalf of all our residents with any problems they bring to us - we are currently working with LCC on the Sea Lane damaged road surface and collapse of the verges. Please keep in touch with our clerk if you would like to have the latest information on any of these issues.

And if we could finish off by saying we have room for one more councillor on our Council – we are a friendly forward-thinking council and would welcome a new face - give our clerk a call for an informal chat on what is involved.
