And here we are in 2025....let’s hope it’s a good one.

Are we finally seeing the end of the cold weather that seems to have been with us since November and whilst it has undoubtedly been beneficial to the land to have had a really cold spell we all prefer the sun and warm weather....the recent dry spell has allowed the fields to dry out and hopefully be in a good condition for Spring sowing.....the farmers are due a good year....March has been warm and dry so fingers crossed for a good year.

First Event of this year for us is the Village Tea Party to celebrate VE Day – the end of the war in Europe on the 8th May followed by the lighting of the Beacon and the reading of the Tributes to those lost and those who fought on. This will be the third time and quite possibly the last beacon there will be for some time, so don’t miss the spectacle. VJ Day – Victory over Japan that effectively brought the war to an end is on the 15th August. There will be a service to remember this day and a stone memorial for both VE and VJ Day created and placed outside the Hall.

The tea party is a free party arranged by the ever-active WSM Community Hall Committee and open to all from both Wainfleet St Mary and All Saints and is an event supported by both councils. It starts at 6pm on the 8th May in the Community Hall and is a help yourself buffet style tea – come along when you are ready – bring your favourite tipple and celebrate the day – there will be music and iconic images on the screen to enjoy. The tea party will finish at 7.30pm and then music and activities until the beacon lighting which will be at 9.30pm – Hot drinks and hot dogs/burgers available to fortify all.

The Jubilee Orchard - Funding has been received from Outer Dowsing and the eagle eyed of you will have seen the planters with the daffs coming through now – along with shrubs in the orchard area – the trees have been trimmed back and a small Christmas tree has arrived ready for Christmas...next on the list of jobs is planting along the Play Area fence and painting of fences.

The Play Area is on the To Do list.....some repairs have been effected but what to do needs some ides from the community to get it right.....we have put together a few questions if you could give us an insight into what would be good for the families of St Marys – there is a QR code survey – as below plus in the Play Area.....please click on it – or the web link and give us your ideas and thoughts....we can then get the Funding Buddies on the case and look for funding to make it happen....

Currently they are looking at ways of funding for The Lunch Club to improve the equipment and continue to meet the ever-growing demand for the monthly lunches.

April brings the Council tax precept to everyone’s attention -Lincoln CC have kept their increase to the bare minimum conscious everyone’s budget is tight. St Mary’s have for the first time in 6 years requested a small figure equivalent to around £4.00 monthly to maintain the agricultural holdings which in the main fund the spending within the Parish. These are a valuable asset and as the land drains collapse and require replacement to maintain our income for the future this will be an ongoing 5 year maintenance plan to keep them viable and to protect the income they bring into the Council.

And to end this newsletter - as we did the last one with the information we have regarding the longstanding issue of the railings at the Pinfold/Low Road. As everyone knows this is a problem that has been a long time in resolving and in the absence  any  support – financial or otherwise - from the EA, Lincolnshire CC have taken the decision to fund from reserves and will be programmed for this financial year 2025/2026.
