Newsletter Autumn Winter 2025

Wainfleet St Mary Parish Autumn/Winter 2024 Newsletter

A round up of the year so far – and thoughts for 2025.

The weather has been a bone of contention this year – summer took a long time to get here and didn’t stay over long – all very disappointing....but it did shine on us for the Village Show.

Entries this year more than tripled to 150 in the produce with around 500 visitors and some great photos in the competition. Sunflowers defied the weather and grew to great heights The calendar is in the process of production and will be available for sale at £6.00 per copy from November.

Plans are afoot for next year’s show – if you would like to be involved in the planning and organising, we would welcome any help that can be offered – all volunteers welcome with open arms and big smiles - just give Jan or Maureen a ring – contact details are at the end of the newsletter - the date for your calendar is Sunday 31st August.

The Friendship Club opened its doors in the Community Hall in July – it meets fortnightly every 2nd and 4th Wednesday and is a warm friendly hub with tea and biscuits, chat and things to do – for further information use the contact details at the end of this newsletter – or pop along to the next one – it all starts at 10.30am till 12.30pm.....and is totally free.

And if digital stuff baffles you there is a solution – help with Pension credit, how to work a mobile phone –or e -book, how to book an appointment through the NHS, ask about online banking, scams or how to FaceTime the grandchildren and Zoom calling – for anything that needs an answer there is a free and welcoming hub at the Community Hall in October, November and December. No appointment necessary – just you and your National Insurance number for registration...all you need to do is turn up between 10.00 and midday on either 7th October, 4th November or 2nd December with your question – the workshop is run by Lincs Digital and no question is too small or silly. Comes with a cup of tea as well....

The Funding Buddies struck again this year and have a National Lottery Grant for the purchase of a screen and projector to bring Film Nights and Children’s Matinees to Wainfleet – licences need to be applied for and volunteers to assist with the shows - all help would be welcomed to get this set up and running....contact details at the bottom of the newsletter.

And looking forward and thinking of Christmas.......

Tea with Santa is planned for Sunday 8th December – keep an eye out for the details and invites either through your door or on social media. Details as they are finalised will be posted on the Community Hall Events page. This will be a free event and supported by Platform Housing with their Kindness in the Community so a big thank you to Sam for her support.

The Lunch Club are heading off for a Christmas Lunch at Woodthorpe Garden Centre again – opportunities for shopping and a bargain and a day off for the Lunch Club chefs. Funding has allowed this event to happen again. Further details will be available at the next Lunch Club in October

And moving into 2025

Wainfleet remembers – VE Day Celebrations – 8th May 2025.

Following on from the successful and popular D Day beacon lighting for the commemoration of D Day - this will be a different event in that it will celebrate the Victory in Europe. The beacon will be lit at 9.30pm along with all the others across the country and in Europe.

Prior to that there will be a ceilidh with a bar and food so pencil the day in your diary and come along and have a fun evening.

The Jubilee Orchard

Elton is looking well at home now in the Orchard – thank you to the Rocking round Wainfleet Group who made this happen – with lots of contributions from the Wainfleet Weekend...we have just been notified of a successful funding bid to provide planters and raised beds and bulb planting.....the next 12 months are going to be busy – any green fingers out there with offers of help would be brilliant to have....

The Geocaching Project...

Another new project for all to enjoy – what is it? Well ..... Geocaching is an outdoor activity, where you use a GPS receiver or mobile device to hide and seek containers, called geocaches or caches, at specific locations marked by coordinates all over the world. You find the cache, take one object from it, which you can keep, add your own, and write any details in the logbook. You then hide it for someone else to find and look for another one. Follow it all on the FaceBook Page Geocaching Around Wainfleet and join in....

And to end this newsletter with the information we have regarding the longstanding issue of the railings at the Pinfold/Low Road. As everyone knows this is a problem that has been a long time in resolving – and was exacerbated with the recent collision with the temporary barriers by a stolen vehicle. Meetings between all the agencies has resulted in LCC Highways taking on the responsibility in the absence of any  support – financial or otherwise - from the EA and it is planned to be included in the budget for 2025.
