Newsletter Spring Summer 2024

Wainfleet St Mary Parish Spring/Summer 2024 Newsletter

By the time this drops through your letter box we hope the sun will have found its way to Wainfleet St Mary.....

Plans for 2024....

First on the list is The Annual Parish Meeting – this is where any WSM resident can come along to the meeting and tell us what you think of us – good and bad!! Or just to put a name to a face and see what we look like. The date is Monday 13th May at 5pm - we could even run to a cup of tea and a biscuit...the meeting lasts for as long as it is needed to and covers parish council aspirations and works over the last 12 months – plus a district and county report from Wendy – our ELDC and LCC Councillor.

The Annual Council Meeting follows on as the Parish Meeting concludes which is when a new Chair and other Officers are elected for 12 months to carry on with parish duties and responsibilities. If you have ever wondered what a Parish Councillor does come along and find out – who knows you might consider joining us – always room for volunteers and helpers!!

Rocking Around Wainfleet goes from strength to strength and will feature at the D Day commemoration on June 6th and again with the Village Show on 1st September as well as popping up at other events such as the Wainfleet Weekend....keep an eye on their Facebook page to see where they are and what they are doing...

In the planning is .......

Wainfleet remembers – 80th anniversary of the D Day landings.

Flyers and banners will shortly be seen around Wainfleet with the beacon due to make its arrival into the St Mary’s field behind the Hall very shortly. The beacon lighting is at 9.15pm with the hall and field open from 8.30pm with hot drinks and hot dogs also available. The programme currently includes a competition for all children to take part in designing a medal and writing a poem with prizes for the winners – check out the Hall Facebook page for more details – or message the clerk – wsmpclerk@btintermet.com. The Hall will have WW2 music and various items from WW2 invoking memories and questions. There will be an International Tribute read out along with the names of the fallen from WW2 from both St Mary’s and All Saints. The evening concludes with the lighting of the beacon and a bugler with a rendition of the Last Post.

If you can’t make the Beacon lighting, then hop along to the Coronation Hall on the Friday for a wartime dance – further details from wastc@btinternet.com- or have a look on WASTC FaceBook page.

The number and standard of entries has been exceptional – some very talented snappers in the parish – and just lovely to see – especially when the weather is not inspiring posted up on the Community Hall Events FB Page....the finalists will be decided by a panel of judges with the public invited to vote at the Show.

There will be a programme available on the day of the Show so nothing is missed....live music, bouncy castles, bar, refreshments, craft stalls, tombola and raffle are all there again – pop the date in your diary or calendar....

And finally a huge vote of thanks to our knitters who continue to surprise and delight us with their creations....we love them!!
