Anyone like a guess as to what these are? Clue – they are edible....

And to give the answer......can we welcome the first of two new businesses to our very rural neck of the woods....

Hello from Ali & Martyna (the Trufflemen)......Hi everyone! We’re Ali and Martyna. We spend a lot of our time out in the woods with our Lagotto dogs who are trained to sniff out truffles. It’s a bit of an unusual job but one we absolutely love and we find truffles in places you’d never think they exist in - even in Wainfleet! We’re really looking forward to getting to know more people locally and if you ever spot us out with our dogs please do come and say hello! And yes.....they are truffles!!

Located just to the east of St Mary’s Church, Resting Woods offers a final resting place among nature. The site combines the benefits of a flower meadow with native woodland. Owner John Smithson Whitehead says: “How and where we rest is a lasting choice we make. For those who choose to rest with us we aim to create a living legacy. The memorial is the life in the flowers and trees rooted in the soil, with the supported nature like birds, bees and butterflies carrying the legacy beyond.” We can hope that in addition to being a local service for people and nature, this will create opportunity for local businesses with additional trade for venues, dinning and accommodation.

Resting Woods is holding open days for the local community on the 3rd Sunday of each month; you are welcome to go along to.  Information on their website www.restingwoods.co.uk, or call John directly for a private chat 07498 222670.

As a very rural area we as a Council are really delighted to welcome these businesses to our little patch of Wainfleet St Mary and wish them every success.

The Play Area is on the To Do list.....we have listened to you -and read all the survey responses – so the next step is to put our heads together and work out the costs – and then look for some funding....the eagle eyes amongst you may have spotted the notice board now in the Play Area...keep an eye on this – we will be posting our events on there – such as Christmas, the Village Show – where to get your sunflowers from and more....

And we can’t let the newsletter go out without mentioning the Village Show....the sun shone again on us – everyone came out and enjoyed all the produce and craft entries, the live music, the bar and everything else that was on offer....cakes all went and the raffle had some fabulous prizes so thanks to all the businesses who supported it....couldn’t do it without you. It is booked again for 2026 – Sunday August 30th and starting at midday rather than 1.00pm – as has been asked for....produce prizes will have a small cash prize again – sunflowers will be available as seeds or small plants to get you all growing – the aim is for one in every garden....so if we start them -can you finish them? We also have some more ideas to keep you entertained – but as with all our events – they run on goodwill and volunteers so please ...if you can give us a couple of hours to help with the raffle, or dog show -  more classes next year as requested – car parking, setting up and/or clearing up we would love to hear from you....just drop us a quick message and we will welcome you with open arms....we promise not to make you work till you drop....Santa would quite like some assistance too.....

And to end this newsletter - as we did the last one with what information we have regarding the longstanding issue of the railings at the Pinfold/Low Road. As everyone knows this is a problem that has been a long time in resolving and in the absence of any  support – financial or otherwise - from the EA we are hoping to enlist support and financial resources from elsewhere with the support of LCC and the local MP to allow this long standing problem and blight on the Community to come to a conclusion.

We are trying ....as are all our local councillors along with ELDC Counciller Wendy Bowkett and LCC Councillor Maria Hume.
