History of the Village

The first mention of Wainfleet Saint Mary as a separate and distinct place from Wainfleet All Saints is in 1378 when it belonged to the Priory of Stixwold.
It is a village and civil parish in the East Lindsey District of Lincolnshire
There is a Grade 2 listed windmill at Mill Garage built of red brick in the early 19th century - It ceased working in 1947 and is now a private residential dwelling.
Wainfleet St Mary no longer has its own primary school - it was closed in 1987 having originated in the Bethlehem Hospital School built in 1831 and was known as Wainfleet Saint Mary Church School by 1903 and as Wainfleet St Mary C of E School by 1913
The population in 1801 was recorded as 421 and is currently around 1100 - pending update from the 2021 census
